All The People Who Own Cats Can’t Miss This

Taking care of a pet cat goes a lot further than just feeding it every day. You have to consider things like it’s litter box, vet appointments and many other important facets. The following article will teach you everything you need to know about how to properly take care of your pet cat.

Cats are constantly grooming themselves, and this is why they rarely need a bath. If your cat gets into something particularly stinky, a bath will not hurt them. If your cat does not like water you might want to wear gloves so that you do not get scratched. You might also want to enlist the help of a friend or family member.

Take your cat to the vet regularly to make sure they remain in good health. A routine check-up should happen annually, and more often if necessary shots are due. If your cat is having a health issue or injury, they need to be seen by their vet right away.

An indoor cat who gets a taste of the outdoors will forever want to go outside. If you know your cat will always be an indoor cat, do your best to keep them from sneaking out. You can try to train your cat to stay in your yard when you are outside.

Protect your cat from strangling by making sure the cords of curtains and blinds are secured and out of reach. When you make or purchase a dangly toy for your cat, be sure to supervise during play. Put the toy away if you will not be around to watch.

Cats are hunters by nature. They love to chase mice and other small animals and insects. Buying little fuzzy mice filled with catnip and batting them around with your cat is a great idea. Your cat will feel as though they are really hunting prey. This will also help you to connect with your cat better.

Keep the litter box clean. Cats are naturally very clean animals, and a dirty litter box will have your cat looking for alternative places to relieve himself. Cats also value their privacy, so try to locate the box in an area that does not get a lot of foot traffic.

If your cat constantly meows, you need to try to figure out why. After you have lived with your cat for a while, you will come to know what she wants by her meow. The cat may want something to eat or to get let out. Listen to what’s she’s trying to tell you, and you’ll begin to understand her cues.

Do you have both a dog and a cat? A dog will take any opportunity they have to eat your cats food. This is why it’s important that the cat’s feeding area is in a spot that’s too high for a dog to get to. This will help prevent any fights that may occur between your animals.

If you have more than one cat, it is a good idea for you to give them each their own food bowls. Place them far apart so that each cat has their space. If you provide just one bowl for the cats to share, it may cause larger cats to bully the smaller ones.

When you bring home a new cat for the first time, the experience can be overwhelming for both of you. Instead of granting access to your entire home, introduce your pet to its new environment one room at a time. For example, you might place your cat’s carrier in your study or den. As long as the carrier door is open, you should be in the room with the animal.

Do not leave wet cat food in the bowl for longer than twenty minutes after your cat is done eating it. After you see your kitten is done for the time being, throw out the rest of the food and make sure to wash their bowl thoroughly with light soap and water.

Turn out the lights and use a black-light to identify the source of that mystery cat urine smell. Cat pee contains phosphorus, which glows brightly under this type of light bulb. This is especially useful because otherwise you might not be able to see the exact area to be treated. Use a piece of chalk to lightly trace the outline of the stain so you can see it when you turn the regular lights back on.

Never assume that a fence will keep your cat from leaving your yard. Unless the fence is specially designed to keep cats from escaping, it’s safe to say that your cat will find a way out. Also, remember that your fence must be able to keep other animals from entering your backyard and harming your pet.

Make sure that you change your cat’s food and water on a regular basis. Just like humans, cats want to eat fresh food and drink water that is clean. Feed them at the same time each and every day if you want them to get into a regular feeding routine.

Never let your cat swipe at guests or bite anyone’s feet. It may seem cute, but it’s not good behavior. Train them from the day they enter your home to get them to behave well.

Don’t use corporal punishment to train your cat. There are far better ways than this to teach your new cat manners. Instead, sprinkle some water on them whenever they are misbehaving.

Owning a cat is not easy. There are a number of things you need to be responsible for. Luckily, the advice in this article has taught you many of those important things. Be sure and implement what you have learned so that your cat will live a long and happy life.
